In their own words...

It (Relational Sacred Mindfulness) was helpful with anxiety in that I was able to recognize what was happening with the little girl inside of me and could do things to facilitate peace within her. I was not able to be totally free from the anxiety.

I have grown into a healthier and more compassionate view of others as a result of gaining a healthier and more compassionate view of myself.

I found that I could see others, even those who wounded me, with different eyes.  I was able to  feel compassion for them and I was able to forgive them and let go of resentment.

Fear, depression, and anger came out when she (his relational sacred presence) acted as my divine punching bag.

It was definitely helpful with depression and anxiety. Sometimes I may begin to experience the old “cloud over my head feelings” on PMS days or times of extreme stress and all I can do is feel thankful that is rare now, not my overall way of living.

“I would strongly state that this approach to healing alleviated that diagnosis.” (Anti-social personality disorder)

When I first started, I was having panic attacks almost daily. My stress level was so high; I could not put a cogent thought in place. She helped me learn stress coping skills. I haven’t had a panic attack in years.

(RSM) helped me to see the “why” of my behavior and thoughts.  I am much more self-aware of my triggers.

A life changing experience…the kind I wish every friend and family member could experience.

“My experience of Relational Sacred healing was life changing.  It started me on a healthier, more free, and honest journey that I hope to continue throughout my life.”

I had mixed feelings, I threw up so much emotional baggage, but in a good way, because so much of the “barf” was left there.

(I feel) sad that it (this approach to healing) is not widely used today.

“It helped in understanding the Yin and Yang forces in my life.”

Sometimes it was terrifying for me because I looked at parts of my life that I hidden from myself for more than 20 years.

This practice is so simple and so healing. I would love to see a program for children.

“I think of it as one of the best personal, spiritual, emotional, and financial investments that I have ever made in my life.”

I wanted to say again how masterful the practice you provided last night was.  Your cadence, tone, language, volume, and the gentleness of your voice were so perfect.     Your words were powerful.

Sara Anderson, LMFT

“In South Africa, we don’t say “thank you,” we say, “I’ll tell someone about you.”

Your guidance voice was perfect. I felt held, and I trusted you completely. I appreciated the pauses and the opportunity to choose. I like the choice aspect very much, actually.  Thank you for creating this – you implement it beautifully.

Julie Bolger, Pastoral Counselor

“Dr. Kucan is a voracious learner, inventive thinker, and careful researcher. I have no doubt her ongoing work will continue to contribute insight and originality as we seek to understand better the relationship between spirituality and mental health.”

Dr. Kathleen Greider, PhD.,  Author, Reckoning with Aggression (1997) and Healing Wisdom (2010).

These “Get Calm Fast” meditations are wonderful!  Even my baby (in my womb) feels calmer!

Jolie Scott has been a meditation practitioner (TM) for over 25 years, a mother, wife, sister, and daughter, a breastfeeding advocate, and a prenatal and postnatal yoga instructor.

Dr. Karen Kućan is making a ground-breaking and unique contribution to contemplative healing methods through Relational Sacred Mindfulness. Contemplative practices are almost exclusively conceived of as intrapersonal endeavors. She conclusively demonstrates the deep healing potential of this relational contemplative practice.

Frank Rogers, Ph.D.  Muriel Bernice Roberts Professor, Claremont Lincoln University.

Dr. Kućan has provided a valuable service to our field by demonstrating how a sacred dimension is present during the process of psychotherapy and by illustrating how this transpersonal realm becomes “good enough” to hold and heal early attachment pain and trauma.

Lionel Corbett, MD, Pacifica Graduate Institute, Author, The Sacred Cauldron: Psychotherapy as Spiritual Practice

Dr. Kućan’s attunement to the spiritual expressions of her clients’ psychological processes is astute. Her effectiveness not only as a therapist but also as developer of Relational Sacred mindfulness is derived from her well-honed intuitive ability in conversation with conscious understanding.  Her creative development of this unique model of integrative therapy attests to her ability to use intuition, research, and practice to advance the field of psychotherapy.

Christa McNerney, PhD

I can bear witness to the transformative power and uniqueness of Dr. Kućan’s creative contributions. Further, the Relational Sacred mindfulness method she has created and researched has wide accessibility across faith traditions, cultures and age groups. I fully expect her to be a major shaper of the field of spiritually integrative counseling and psychotherapy for the emerging generation.

Frank Rogers, Ph.D. Muriel Bernice Roberts Professor, Claremont Lincoln University.  Author, Practicing Compassion, Finalist for Best Spirituality Book of 2016, USA Best Book Awards.

Just as important as her research and teaching, the continuity between Dr. Kucan’s intellectual interests and her way of interacting with others conveys integrity and makes her a stimulating conversation partner.”

Dr. Kathleen Greider, PhD. Author: Reckoning with Aggression (1997) and Healing Wisdom (2010).

Dr. Karen Kućan’s ideas on a relational sacred healing are solidly grounded in interpersonal neurobiology, quite creative, and very interesting.”

Dr. Allan Schore, PhD, Author: Affect Regulation and the Repair of the Self (2012) and Interpersonal Neurobiology and Clinical Practice (2021).

Why RELATIONAL Sacred mindfulness?

Embodied unconscious avoidant, ambivalent, and disorganized fragments hide better.

Hiding behind walls of defense, they become conscious toward healing only when they experience “good enough” reliability and strength.

They hide during solitary meditation & spiritual practices and healing approaches that don’t offer a strong, reliable, resilient relationship to trigger them into conscious awareness.

We train professional, intuitive and creative healing artists

to work with the traumatized soul.

Community Group

Meet Karen Kućan, PhD, LPCC

Dr. Kućan enjoys and is committed to empowering clinicians with an integrated training program that facilitates embodied knowing, theory, and clinical skills to ensure your confidence in working at the deepest psychoanalytic levels of attachment pain and trauma.

“Being received by a “good enough” womb makes all the difference!

Attachment pain and trauma
tie our clients up in knots.

Relational Somatic Mindfulness
quickly calms and illuminates that entangled energy.

We see those knots as hidden "lil ones" suffering from attachment trauma.

These hiding disassociated fragments block the flow of our true selves, preventing us from feeling the way we want to feel, acting the way we want to act, and relating the way we want to relate.

These anxious lil ones begin to settle-often more quickly than we expect-- when their bodies encounter reliable & resilient strength, and are tenderly held into awareness.

Discover one layer of a Relational Sacred Womb

Relational Sacred Mindfulness

gradually unwinds the knot.

Previously hidden lil ones experience a receiving womb.

Symptoms decrease.

More resilient, authentic, and true selves flow.

Making soul-oriented methods even more effective -- through a receiving womb.

Relationally skilled healing artists guide clients into somatic landscapes where dissociated fragments — tender, hiding lil ones -- have survived by retreating into a protective tomb.
They are waiting to be received by an indestructible womb.

Somatic Mindfulness

We teach mindfulness
on “lil ones” becoming attached, held and received in a transpersonal womb.

Our implicit relational dependency
on "good-enough" mothers
was overlooked by eastern meditators.

Spiritual & Energetic Healing

A womb that survives the kick strengthens the developing embodied soul.

Relational sacred presences don't function as containers to "clear," "cathart," or "dissolve" emotions. They meet intensities with a matching force that converts even hate and rage into empathy, resilience, and empowered authenticity.

Guided By Soul:
DW Winnicott & Dr. Karen

Donald Winnicott—the beloved pediatrician and psychoanalyst who illuminated the essential role of the “good enough” mother—continues to guide the evolution of healing work in our world.

Though he left this life in 1971, his presence has not disappeared.

He collaborates still—quietly, steadily—guiding Dr. Karen Kućan in the transformation of narcissistic wounds for the sake of our collective vitality.

This is not theory alone.
It is a living transmission.

Guided by Soul:
A poem upon waking

by Dr. Karen

Sands of freedom coming in waves from the ocean floor.
Held on coins coming to shore.
Sand becomes hands to hold anxious souls.
Sacred energies become “good enough” to receive embodied screams.
